bagatelle's bilge pump story

When I had bagatelle inspected the inspector said that the bilge pump did not work so that was one of the things that I was going to fix once I got a hold of her. So in March I came out to the boat and I checked all the connections and I found that the bilge pump switch was missing a fuse. Thinking that I didn't want to have to be looking for fuses whenever one blue I decided to buy a new bilge pump switch with an integrated breaker.
I ordered the switch from defender marine supply. I installed it in April. And I wired up the bilge pump. The bilge pump worked when I put it in put the switch in manual it ran when I put it in automatic and there was water in the bilge it ran.
In the fall it started raining more than it rained all summer I came out to the boat one day to find water on the floor. I discovered that the bilge pump would not run and automatic but still ran in manual. So for a few months I would make it a point to come out and push the manual bilge pump button until the bildge was empty.
Thinking that the problem was the float switch in the bilge pump I decided to buy a new bilge pump just like it.
Today I installed it and found after installation that the manuals side worked but the automatic side did not and so after testing, something I should have done first, I found that the wire from the switch to the pump is open. On inspection I also see that the wire is corroded so probably I will replace the wire that leads from the switch to the pump.
This is one of my problems I tend to just buy things before I do troubleshooting. I need to change my order of operation. I need to fully troubleshoot everything broken before I buy a replacement part. More about the story to come after I get some wire and replace the wire on the boat. Good night.
