travels with Connie and Jack
I was in Austin to pick up my wife and to take the dog to the heart doctor. So on Friday we took the dog to the heart doctor he got a checkup. I heard that the dog was doing fine my wife heard something different. But anyways on Saturday we packed up the car and the dog and headed off to Clear Lake.
I had made reservations at the clear Lake extended stay suites motel. But when we arrived after visiting Ellen for a couple hours they had already given our room off to somebody else.
When I called Dana Hamilton, my cousin, she graciously said that we could stay with her instead. So we spent 5 days spending quality time with family at Dana's house on Sunday they had a barbecue for the 4th of July. We had a good time eating barbecue and chatting. Connie swam and played with a 4 year old girl.
On Monday, I went skating on the Galveston sea wall.
Connie and I visited Ellen, we found and purchased a shelf unit for her apartment.
On the fourth of July we relaxed. I walked over to Walmart. Then I walked back in a thunderstorm.
On the fifth, Ellen took us to the Houston fine Art museum.
We left the museum and drove Ellen home but before we got home she got a call from her son and we were diverted to the playground or Ellen could watch her daughter her granddaughter play and talk to her son he spent about an hour there and then Connie and I left to go home as a consequence we got home rather late Dana had to call us to see if we were going to make it. But we had a good time and we made it before 10:00.
On Wednesday we got to we got a good start we left about 10 and headed east we drove through Bolivar pick the ferry we stopped off at stingray Marina so I could survey the spot that I was going to stay then we switch drivers and Connie drove we drove to stopped at a library so Connie and I'm the dog at all have a rest. I picked up some brochures for the local theater group. And then we drove on you drove all day we went through Lafayette we finally arrived in baton rouge about 10:00 at night I hadn't picked out a hotel and I was looking for hotels where I can plug in the car and none of the hotels I picked Connie liked so eventually I called the Quality inn and they quoted the same rate I was getting for these dirtbag hotels so we went and stayed there in the meantime Connie was having a meltdown because she didn't like the hotels and it was late and she was tired so that was a an interesting development.
The Quality inn that I found it's a few miles outside of baton rouge to the east and it had a plug that I could plug the car in by the pool which is nice. We spent the next day we went downtown we toured the capital and we went to a casino in the hopes that they had a decent restaurant and they had a snack bar so we had snack or like food and we drove back to the hotel.
In the meantime mother had sent me the name and address for Judy Allen my cousin who lives in Lafayette so I decided we double back and go see Judy so we drove East back to Lafayette we spent the morning in the early afternoon talking to Judy had a great time hearing her story and sharing ours.
after we visited Judy Connie wanted to find clothing and a fanny pack and so we went to Goodwill. I walked the dog while she shopped. Then we drove on to New Iberia since we wanted to visit Ayers Island.
We drove to New Iberia and found a Quality inn where we booked the room Connie was tired and the dog was coughing so I booked the room without checking to see if I could charge the car. So the first night the second night I asked permission to run a chord through the back door and I was able to charge the car in the second day.
Next morning after walking the dog and having breakfast. We headed off to Ayers Island.
You had a pleasant day viewing the island we saw the Tabasco museum we saw the factory was just shut down since it was a Sunday walked through the gift shop we tried Tabasco ice cream and jalapeno ice cream and jalapeno ice cream.. and we found it spicy.
Connie found an advertisement for Vermilion Island back in Lafayette. So we went there to see that.
We arrived in Vermilion Island just before a heavy downpour started the first thing we did then was to go and have lunch or at least I had lunch they had a Cajun buffet. So I got some pretty good tasting Cajun food
after lunch we walked over to see the music that was playing in the dancehall it was Cajun music and it was loud some reason these folks thought they needed to amplify Cajun music in a dance hall that was somewhat smaller than the Green Hall in Texas so we could hear the music just fine outside the dance hall so we wondered about the compound looking at the old Cajun houses they put it where they displayed you know tools from history.
After we were finished viewing the Vermilion village we headed back to the hotel.
The evening was kind of traumatic because Jack had a coughing fit that lasted most of the evening and into the night which said Connie I worry a lot.
The next day we headed for New Orleans.
