Thursday in El Paso

Awakened at 4:00 a.m. Austin time thinking I would like to go skating. But I found it very difficult to get up. Plus the La Quinta motel is on the north side of I-10 and the area that is suitable for skating is by the river about 5 mi from the hotel. And I was reticent to disconnect the Volt and she wasn't charged yet. So I continue to lie in bed until 5:00 a.m. Austin time. Since I was in mountain time in El Paso and breakfast and would not be served until 6:00 a.m. at the motel, I thought I would go for a walk. I walked down about a mile to Hawkins Street and I crossed under the freeway. I walked through an industrial community. I turned back to go up hill. I walked up to Viscount boulevard and back to the hotel passing a community garden along the way.
I had breakfast at the La Quinta. I looked in the computer to find any events that might be happening in El Paso on Thursday. I didn't see anything of note except the West side community Church had free meals for anyone in sunset community of El Paso.
I read about the Open market at El paisano drive and I decided I'd drive down there. Once I got to El pasano drive I noticed that it is a very good road for skating it's flat and there's sidewalks on both sides of the road. Once I got to the place that Google showed as El pasano market there was no market there.
I asked Google for sites to see in the area.
I drove to La Perla Park where a curandera was practicing with a client under a tree I took a picture of the skate park.
I went to the chamisal monument. It's celebrates a treaty of friendship which the United States had signed with Mexico back in the '80s.
I found it interesting dichotomy that the park of friendship friends on the border wall which is heavily guarded by the border patrol.
I drove to Lincoln Park where some murals have been painted by the Chicano community on The columns of the I-10 freeway.
Google indicated there was the five points museum nearby. So I drove to the place indicated to find that it was the El Paso Police headquarters which is situated at the junction of five streets inside Police department I found a policeman who is interviewing a new recruit he indicated that the display cases and the foyer and the break room comprise the museum. So I took pictures of the display and left.
it was getting close to lunch so I decided to drive out to sunset for my free lunch.
My way out to the Westside community Church I passed a sign for the Keystone succulent botanical garden and wildlife refuge sponsored by the junior league of El Paso.
I toured the garden talked to the caretaker took some pictures. I found it a pleasant place to visit while there I saw a California quail and a mockingbird and a lizard along with several cycling plants so mesquite and hackberry trees.
I drove on to the Westside community Church went in they had a cafeteria style serving line I was served zucchini parmesan and salad and as I left I gave him a $10 donation so my free lunch was really free to me but I feel it's a good cause to feed the poor.
I drove back downtown to go to the art and history museums. Parked across the freeway from downtown to save on parking fees even though it was 105 it was a pleasant walk to the museums
I toured both the History museum and the art museum and had a good time
While at the Art Museum I saw an ad for a free concert at the Mc Kelligan Canyon Amptheater. I drove out tho the Canyon, I arrived at the Ampitheater at about 2:30 pm, the temperature was about 109 F, I dcided to go back to the Motel for a nap. I left a rather empty canyon, when I tried to return at 5:30pm I encountered a traffic jam. There is but one 2 mile road in or out, There is a substancial parking lot, but I think getiing in to park is difficult. The show started at 6:00pm I gave up at 6:20 and headed back to the motel for dinner and a movie. I probably missed a show like this or this
